Couple Of Easy Linux Tasks

I have a couple little things that need doing, as I am new to Linux and this is on Security Onion (Xubuntu) I need help. This can either be done via remoting on, or talking me through how to do it.

1) Renew IP each logon – Currently have to release and renew the IP every time the machine is logged on to, and should be static.

2) Configure Synergy to start on boot (for logon) – In which was I can then logon to machine from another PC, without having to connect a mouse and keyboard.
